Do I need an eye cream?

When talking about skin care routines with patients, I often get this question. For my younger patients, an eye cream may not be necessary, but for most of us over the age of 30, a specific product for the eyes can be very beneficial.
The delicate tissue around the eye (periocular area)is the thinnest skin on the body - making it more susceptible to effects of aging, ultraviolet damage, and dryness and irritation. When we are younger, our collagen and elastin levels are higher and we are better able to retain moisture in the skin. As we mature, and our skin naturally thins, and this already ultra thin tissue around the eye thins even more, and is one of the first places to note effects of aging - creepiness, dryness, and wrinkles.
Other factors that accelerate aging around the eye are sun damage, constant muscle contractions of the periocular muscles (think crow’s feet), thinning of fat pads in the periocular area, and mechanical pressures to those tissues such as those seen with sleeping on your side for 8 hours a night.
What can we do to protect and maintain the health of the tissue around the eyes? First and foremost, protect your facial skin - including the eye area - everyday with a topical Vitamin C and a broad spectrum mineral based sunscreen with at least an SPF 30.
Use a gentle, non drying cleanser to the delicate tissue, as well as minimizing tugging and pulling of this area. If you are starting to see signs of aging and/or skin dryness or irritability, an additional eye cream may be for you. Our Biomarine Hydration Cream is specially formulated with your delicate eye tissue in mind.
Brown Seaweed Extract is the star of this cream, known for its ultra hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties. The added jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and apricot enhance this products ability to improve the natural barrier function of the skin, resulting in a hydrated, more youthful appearance of the skin. Our Biomarine Hydration Cream can be used around the eyes twice a day, and anywhere else on the face that you may need a boost of moisture.
Try it. We know you’ll love it!
