How old do you look? Ask your hands.

Want to know a person's age? Just look at their hands.
We have all heard that before, and for good reason. After the face, the hands are the second most visible, tell-tale signs of a person’s age - and one of the most neglected parts of our body.
Think of all our hands do for us, and all we put them through during an average day; Fine detail work, picking up groceries, washing dishes, planting a garden, incessant hand washing with drying soaps, brushing the dog, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, helping to build a Lego set, laundry, and the list literally goes on and on (and on).
The least we can do is show our hands a little love.
We get many questions from patients on how to make the hands look and feel more youthful. Our goal at Save the Wave Skincare is to provide Skincare with Purpose. What that means to you is targeted, simple, and effective ingredients in our products for the healthiest and most beautiful skin.
A good skincare regimen for the hands can be highly effective in maintaining skin thickness and fullness, while minimizing pigment and other signs of aging.
Always remember, whatever you do for your face, do for your hands (and neck and décolletage, for that matter). Any products you use to keep your face looking healthy and beautiful can (and should) be applied to other high-risk areas as well. Most of the causes of aging of the skin comes from sun exposure, so protection from UV irradiation and damaging free radicals is a must.
Follow these few simple steps:
To begin, everyday should start with our topical 20% Vitamin C with Ferulic Acid and Vitamins B&E. Bring the product up to your mid forearm (the areas most likely to receive sun exposure). This is always followed by a Save the Wave Skincare Mineral Based Sunscreen, every single day, 365 days a year, regardless of the season or temperature outside.
Personally, we like the SPF 30 Mineral Foam Sunblock for body, as it glides on easily and covers a large area quickly and is a nice option for hair bearing areas. Remember to reapply your sunscreen several times during the day. All our sunscreens fit easily in your purse, baby bag or backpack for reapplication.
Like the face, our hands and forearms can benefit from the collagen boosting benefits of nightly retinol. Hydrating Retinol Serum is also helpful to improve the texture and tone of the skin as well as inhibit unwanted pigment.
Speaking of unwanted pigment, our Triple Action Whitening Serum can be an added in the evening as well if you are looking to fade those pesky sunspots.
Give your hands a spa day! Using our Rejuvenating 10% Lactic Acid Gel Exfoliator once or twice a week can brighten the skin, boost collagen production and fade pigment. On the same scheduling, our Corrective Anti-Aging Masque can smooth and soften the skin.
5) Cleanse the hands with gentle, non-drying cleansers as much as you can; Our Almond and Oatmeal soap are great options to have by all the sinks in your house for daily gentle use.
6) Don't forget to moisturize! We try to moisturize after every hand washing. Our go-to is the Nourishing Everything Oil, Biomarine Hydration Cream or one of our mineral based sunscreens. It very much depends on what activity you doing and what time of the day it is. During the day, we are much more likely to use a sunscreen to keep my hands protected from UV exposure, but at night the Nourishing Everything Oil for its calming scent and extra hydration. Biomarine Cream is an any time of the day you need the extra hydration.
Hand heath and rejuvenation doesn't have to be difficult, and with simple yet consistent care, your hands will look and feel as beautiful and healthy as you are on the inside.
When they ask how old you are? Give them a high-five.
