As if acne isn’t bad enough on your face, right?! Have you ever experienced bance?
Over 50% of people who experience facial acne lesions will ALSO have acne on the chest, shoulders, and back. Similar to the uninvited visitors on your face, the upper trunk has many sebaceous (oil) glands, making it a prime target for acne.
You may have come across it on the titles or ingredients of so many skincare and body care products, but may not be clear what is all the hype about and how can it benefit your skin.
Activated charcoal, also called activated carbon, is a fine black powder that is produced when common charcoal is exposed to high heat. This exposure creates tiny internal spaces or holes in the charcoal, making it highly absorbent and able to trap chemicals and toxins. Although it is a type of charcoal, activated charcoal is different from the charcoal used on an outdoor grill.
No matter your age (from pre-teen to full adulthood), we’ve got you covered!
Save the Wave Skincare’s suggested skincare routine would consist of four acne-reducing staples: Bamboo Charcoal Soap, Purifying Blueberry Charcoal Mud Mask, Calming Facial Toner with Witch Hazel & Lavender, and one of our five Mineral-based sunscreens.
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that affects both men and women, typically becoming apparent between the ages of 30-50, and is most common in fair skinned people with Celtic and Scandinavian ancestry (but can also affect darker toned skin). Heredity can create a susceptibility to developing Rosacea.
We all get SOME ultraviolet exposure during the day, even if just doing our day to day activities such as riding in the car, going to the store, walking our dogs, and going to the post office, etc. It is important to PROTECT our skin every day from this incidental exposure. EVERY DAY we need to apply a mineral-based broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher, even on cloudy and overcast days. Focus on high exposure areas such as the face, neck, chest, ears, hands, and the top of the head. Other sun protective measures include seeking shade from 10am to 4pm if possible, protective clothing such as long sleeve shirts and wide brim hats. Remember to reapplying sunscreen every 80 minutes after swimming or sweating.
Sunscreen: where it came from and why it’s important for ALL of us. Sunscreen was first developed in 1930’s and credited to both Franz Greiter and Benjamin Greene. The first sunscreen formulas were a thick combination of cocoa butter and...
Want to know a person's age? Just look at their hands.
We have all heard that before, and for good reason. After the face, the hands are the second most visible, tell-tale signs of a person’s age - and one of the most neglected parts of our body.
Think of all our hands do for us, and all we put them through during an average day; Fine detail work, picking up groceries, washing dishes, planting a garden, incessant hand washing with drying soaps, brushing the dog, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, helping to build a Lego set, laundry, and the list literally goes on and on (and on).
The least we can do is show our hands a little love.
This company wouldn’t be complete without the other half of the brilliant duo. On this Friday is Easter weekend, allow us to introduce you to Elena. Hey everybody! My name is Elena Avila and along with my sister, Heather, I...

We often discuss the importance of applying a daily SPF, as great looking healthy skin starts with consistent protection from ultraviolet radiation. We cannot stress enough that EVERY day, 365 days a year, we should be protecting all exposed areas of skin (especially focusing on the face, neck and chest) with a sunscreen that has at least an SPF 30. While sunscreen is the true MVP, other protective gear like hats, sunglasses, long sleeves, swim shirts, and pants definitely contribute to the success of the team.
Apples are high in polyphenols inhibit AGE (advanced glycation end-products) formation, which can prematurely age the skin. They have been implicated in other chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. The old “apple a day” adage is as true as true can be!
You have been hearing about retinoids and retinol for decades.
What’s the difference? While both products are Vitamin A derivatives, Retinoids are prescription strength products that require a visit to the doctor and the pharmacy. Retinols are weaker but over the counter and much easier (and less expensive) to access. Both can help with fine lines and wrinkles, mild to moderate acne, boosts collagen production, speed up cellular turnover, and improve unwanted pigmentary changes of the skin.
There are many “triggers” that worsen rosacea, and each person may have different triggers. Common triggers include: sun, hot beverages, harsh or irritating skin products, scrubbing the skin, drinking alcohol, and hot spicy foods.
There are so many reasons for us to have this terrible winter skin: eczema, the dry cold months of the season, and aging skin. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what can help, but we took the time and did the work on your behalf.
As if they weren't going through enough: school, relationships, sports, and family. The teen years can also be a challenging time for their skin and hair: acne, oily complexion and hair, seborrhea (which can cause irritation and flaking), and early sun damage. Let us at least simplify the skincare issue for them.
"I'm a guy - I don't like to put things on my skin." We must hear this 10 times a day in clinical practice, when we ask gentlemen about their skincare routine. Whaaaaat? Hold the line! There is nothing easier (or sexier) than healthy, great looking skin. We’re here to change your mentality on the topic (for the better).
